The two-day Rass Leela Mohatsav kicked off in Dibrugarh of eastern Assam on Saturday.
The Mahotsav was inaugurated by Dr Gopal Hazarika, professor of Dibrugarh University at police reserve auditorium in the town on Saturday.
For the first time, the Mohatsav has been organized by Dibrugarh Sattriya Kala Kristi Kendra. After lighting of the ceremonial lamp the ceremony started.
The organizing committee felicitated Dr Hazarika. Along with Dr Hazarika many renowned dignitaries were present at the programme who were also felicitated by the committee.
“For the first time the Rass Leela has been organized with the support of other communities. For two days, we are organizing the Mohatsav in Dibrugarh. Our main objective is to showcase the rich tradition of Rass Leela in Dibrugarh. The people of Dibrugarh have never seen such Rass Mohatsav before,” said Pollav Kumar Chakraborty, a member of the Rass organizing committee.
People from all walks of life thronged to see Rass Leela. Artists from Majuli participated in the Rass Mahotsav to showcase the rich tradition of Assamese culture.
Dibrugarh Sattriya Kala Kristi Kendra was formed to uplift the rich Sattriya culture among people in Dibrugarh.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is likely to attend the concluding ceremony of the programme.
