Lakhimpur: Three people were killed and several others seriously injured in three separate road accidents reported across Assam’s Lakhimpur district over the past 12 hours, prompting renewed concerns over road safety in the region.

The deadliest incident occurred on Saturday night at Borpathar in Narayanpur along National Highway 15, where a hatchback (AR01 M 0826) collided head-on with a motorcycle (AS07 Z 2250). The crash claimed the lives of three individuals, identified as Dimba Pegu, Manabjyoti Doley and Deepjyoti Doley.

In a separate accident at Mazgaon in Nowboicha on Sunday, another hatchback (AS07 H 9116) crashed into a motorcycle (AS07 AB 8557) on NH-15. The motorcyclist sustained critical injuries and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, at Kathalguri in Dhakuakhana, a speeding hatchback (AS07 U 9151) rammed into an e-rickshaw, causing it to overturn into a roadside ditch. A passenger travelling in the e-rickshaw suffered serious injuries in the collision.

All injured persons have been admitted to hospitals, while police have launched investigations into the accidents. The incidents have once again highlighted growing concerns over reckless driving and highway safety in Lakhimpur district.
