North Lakhimpur: The police in Lakhimpur district arrested three persons with fake gold bars in Bihpuria.
The arrests were made while the trio was travelling in a night service bus coming from North Lakhimpur to Guwahati on Thursday night.

The arrested persons were identified as Gulzar Hussain od Mohghuli and Abdul Alam and Tayebur Ali from Sonapur of the Bangalmora region — infamously known for fake gold and counterfeiting currency trade.
Three boat-shaped fake gold bars were recovered from the possession of the arrested persons.
The arrests take place just two days after the recovery of eleven fake gold bars from Babul Hussain and Safiqul Hussain in Bangalmora.

Both incidents took place after a brief pause in the infamous trade of fake gold trade in Lakhimpur’s Bangalmora region.
It may be mentioned that the infamous trade of fake gold and counterfeit currency of Lakhimpur’s Bangalmora came down significantly following a vigorous campaign by police after the case of the mysterious death of police officer Junmoni Rabha in 2023 and the transfer of the Lakhimpur SP and Adl SP.
But last night’s operation by police again indicates a resurgence of the illicit activity.
