The Jagun Police in Tinsukia district arrested a suspected militant of the anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) linkman from Jagun’s No 2 Faneng during a joint operation with 13th Battalion of Assam Rifles on Sunday.

The 38-year-old suspected ULFA-I linkman has been identified as Babu alias Hemkanta Basumatary.

According to police officials, the accused helped one Karishma Mech of Faneng to join the ULFA-I in April, 2018.

On the other hand, there has no information of the whereabouts of the missing tea garden employee, Dinanath Upadhyay alias Gopal Upadhyay.

Dinanath Upadhyay, who was a worker in businessman Radha Chetia’s tea garden at Upper Faneng under Jagun Police Station in Tinsukia district, was allegedly abducted by suspected ULFA-I cadres on June 8, 2018.

The Jagun Police and 13th Battalion of Assam Rifles have launched an operation in search of Upadhyay in the Patkai hill along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

On the other hand, the tea garden owner, Radha Chetia, refrained from commenting before the media on the matter.
