Assam students and youth welfare body congratulates three women athletes

On the occasion of International Women’s Day on Thursday, the member secretary of State Level Advisory Committee (SLAC) for Students and Youth Welfare, Assam, Lakhya Konwar congratulated the three women players of Assam on their selection to the Indian contingent for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

The three women athletes, namely Hima Das (Athletics), Lovelina Borgohain (Boxing) and Nayanmoni Saikia (Lawn bowl) from Assam are selected in the Indian team for the forthcoming XXI Commonwealth Games scheduled to be held in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia between April 4 and 15, 2018.

To encourage the players, the member secretary, SLAC has also announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 to each of the players.

While expressing his view, the member secretary has stated that it is a matter of immense pride for the women of Assam on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

He has expressed hope for good performance by the players and also wished them all success in the competitions.

The member secretary, SLAC also opined that performances like this will go a long way in realizing the Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal’s vision of making Guwahati as the sports capital of India in the coming days.
