Guwahati: A speeding sports utility vehicle (SUV) mowed down four children, including an infant, in Dhubri district of Assam early on Friday morning.

The incident took place at Sonakhali village under the jurisdiction of Agomani Police Station.

While three children died on the spot, another succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

The victims have been identified as Mariam Khatun (12), Zubair Rahman (9), Mehdi Hussain (11), and one-and-a-half-month-old infant Abu Raihan.

Though the vehicle fled from the spot after the accident, the police later arrested the driver who was reportedly driving at a high speed.
