Simmering tension still prevailed on Wednesday across Tezpur in Assam’s Sonitpur district in the aftermath of the demolition of the statue of St. John Bosco by unidentified miscreants at the Bishop House located on the bank of Brahmaputra River last Saturday night.

Sharp reactions have been coming in condemning the shameful act from all quarters including several Christian institutions.

Meanwhile a case has been registered bearing number 2006/18 U/ S 120(B)/295/427/34, at Tezpur Sadar Police Station.

Though police are investigating the matter and are on the lookout for the miscreants, no arrest has been made so far.

Notably, there are a number of Christian missionary run organizations including Don Bosco School which has been playing a major role in providing education to the students of the region thereby strengthening the sense of brotherhood among the common people.

Sonitpur additional superintendent of Police (HQ) Numal Mahatta told Northeast Now that the culprits will be book soon and be punished as per law.
