Assam RPF seize contraband worth Rs 23.50 crore
The RPF of NFR has recovered contraband worth over Rs 23.50 crore and nabbed 283 individuals between January and August 2024

Guwahati: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has recovered contraband and smuggled goods, estimated to be worth over Rs 23.50 crore, and apprehended 283 individuals for alleged trafficking of these items through rail transport, between January and August 2024.   

Continuing its fight against smuggling of contraband through train transport, the RPF of NFR has recovered such illicit goods estimated to be worth more than Rs 26.48 lakh between September 1 and 15 this year.

The RPF has also nabbed as many as nine persons for allegedly being involved in transportation of these items during this period.

On September 2, a joint team of RPF and Government Railway Police (GRP) conducted a search in the Agartala-Rani Kamalapati Express at Lumding railway station in Hojai district of Assam.

During a thorough search, the joint team nabbed four persons and recovered 19.7 grams of brown sugar, valued at Rs 3.94 lakh in the international market, from their possession.

Moreover, the team recovered 18.10 kilograms of cannabis, valued at Rs 1.81 lakh in the grey market, from the possession of the foursome.

The apprehended individuals along with the recovered items were later handed over to the officer in-charge of Lumding GRP for necessary legal action.
