Guwahati: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Assam’s Guwahati-based Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has nabbed 256 illegal immigrants and 18 agents within a period of nine months.  

Continuing its fight against illegal immigrants, including Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas, the RPF of NFR has apprehended as many as 256 such individuals and 18 Indian agents during different checking drives conducted across various railway stations under its jurisdiction between January and September 2024.

On September 21 this year, a RPF team of Tripura’s state capital Agartala conducted a routine checking drive at Agartala Railway Station.

During checking, the RPF team detected a group of 11 people, including four men and seven women, with suspicious movements at the railway station premises.

On being questioned, the group could not provide any valid document of their identity.

The group soon revealed that they entered India from Bangladesh illegally and were planning to board a train for Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

The group of Bangladeshi nationals was later handed over to the officer in-charge of the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Agartala for further legal action.
