The Assam Rifles Equestrian team emerged winners out of eight teams and won five gold medals in the Regional Equestrian Meet and first Itanagar Horse Riding Show.

Apart from gold, the Assam Rifles Equestrian team also won 2 silver and 2 bronze medals in both team and individual events of Regional Equestrian Meet and first Itanagar Horse Riding Show organised as part of the 33rd Statehood Day celebrations of Arunachal Pradesh.

Informing about their achievement, the Assam Rifles on its official Twitter handle on Friday stated: “As a prelude to 33rd Statehood Day of Arunachal Pradesh, Regional Equestrian Meet & 1st Itanagar Horse Riding Show was conducted. Assam Rifles Eqtn Team achieved the winners position out of 08 teams by winning 5 Golds, 2 Silver & 2 Bronze in team & individual events.”

It may be mentioned that the event was held at Chimpu in Itanagar, the state capital of Arunachal Pradesh.

The three-day event, started on Wednesday, was held at the 1st AAP battalion ground in Chimpu.

The event was organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Equestrian Association (APEA) and it featured a tent-pegging display aimed at promoting equestrian sport in the state.

The key participants in the event were Assam Rifles, NCC, Assam Police, Lohitpur ITBP, Indian Army’s 3 Corps and 4 Corps, Equestrian Federation of Assam and Assam Valley School.

A total of 119 riders and 38 horses performed in the event.

While attending the inaugural event, Arunachal Pradesh deputy chief minister Chowna Mein urged the APEA to take forward the sport “as the state has a wide scope for adventure sports and such sports have the potential to attract tourists.”

Aeunachal Pradesh chief secretary Satya Gopal had said the first ever equestrian meet and the foundation of the APEA “marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the state.”
