As part of their fight against insurgency, the Mon Battalion of Assam Rifles apprehended a cadre of the Khaplang faction of the militant outfit National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K) in Mon town of Nagaland.
The apprehended NSCN(K) cadre has been identified as Yogpei Konyak.
According to Assam Rifles, the operating team also recovered extortion receipts, four diaries with multiple extortion transaction, photographs of NSCN (K) cadres, gold receipts worth of Rs 34,96,249 Burmese Kyat from the possession of the nabbed militant.
It has been suspected the NSCN (K) cadre was involved in extortion in Mon area of Nagaland.
It may be mentioned that the Assam Rifles, which is known as the Sentinels of the Northeast, has continued their efforts against insurgency in different parts of the region. Assam Rifles personnel from time to time apprehend militants belonging to different outfits of the region. Many Assam Rifles personnel have also lost their lives while fighting against armed militants.
Informing about apprehension of the NSCN(K) cadre from Mon town, the Assam Rifles on its Twitter handle on Monday stated: “Mon Bn of Assam Rifles apprehended NSCN (K) cadre Yogpei Konyak, in Mon Town. Recovered extortion receipts, four diaries with multiple extortion transaction, photographs of NSCN (K) cadres, gold receipts worth of Rs 34,96,249/- Burmese Kyat.”
