When the Assam Rifles column approached the camp and asked the NSCN (IM) cadres to surrender peacefully as per ceasefire ground rules guidelines on the morning of August 8, the cadres responded by bringing down heavy volume of automatic fire on the security force column, it said.

The release said the NSCN (IM) cadres abandoned the camp and fled taking cover of the thick jungle and foliage later. The camp was destroyed by the Assam Rifles column.

The Assam Rifles said this act of NSCN (IM) was a gross violation of the ceasefire ground rules.
