The 158th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate and poet Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated on Thursday at Nagarbashi M E School at Jugijan Block in Hojai district of Assam.

At the very outset in the morning earthen lamp was lighted in front of the potrait of Kavi Guru Rabindranath Tagore by head teacher Manash Das followed by floral tribute paid by teachers and students.
A day-long cultural programme was organized in the school in order to remember and cherish valuable contributions made by Rabindranath Tagore for our nation.
Students of Nagarbashi M E School showcased sangeet, poetry and drama.

An art competition on the theme ‘Draw the portrait of Rabindranath Tagore’ was organized among the students where around 174 students of the school took part in this competition. First prize was awarded to Dibakar Das of Class seven and second prize to Deepa Das, also of Class seven in category Class VI to VIII. In the category Class three to five, the first prize was awarded to Sumit Das of Class V and second prize went to Debojeet Das of Class IV.
Talking to this correspondent, Manash Das, head teacher and Kamal Chandra Paul, assistant teacher together said,”With these celebrations, we paid our rich tributes to the towering figure of the nation, the programme and competitions organized will definitely help students to know the contribution made by multi- faceted genius.”
On the other hand, Hojai Municipal Board, various other government and private schools, colleges, NGOs celebrated the day with lots of enthusiasm and fervour at their respective venues.
