Guwahati: The Indian Army has been proudly showcasing the spirit of Red Shield Badminton Tournament with an electrifying beginning of the trophy tour from Bordumsa on October 7.

Kohima-based Defence PRO Lt Col Amit Shukla said the tour pulsated with fervour as participants of all ages marched proudly, celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship.

The tour reached Digboi in Tinsukia district of Assam on October 9, where the trophy was displayed at the Ramleela Maidan.

Over 1,000 locals, including students and enthusiastic youth, converged to witness the vibrant tapestry of Assam come alive through captivating cultural performances including mesmerising performances of Bihu dance, he said.

The tour shall continue its splendid journey and reach Margherita on October 14.

As the tour inches towards its final leg, it shall move closer to the Brahmaputra river, and reach the Doomdooma College and its ultimate destination at Navodaya Vidyalaya in Kakopathar on October 16, he added.

After instilling a feeling of pride and the spirit of Assam throughout its tour, the trophy shall finally reach Tinsukia where it shall be displayed in its full glory during the opening ceremony at the Hijuguri Indoor Stadium on October 18, he said.

The second edition of the Red Shield Badminton Tournament is being conducted by the Indian Army in association with the Assam Badminton Association from October 18 in Tinsukia, he added.

Lt Col Shukla said the tournament will provide a platform to all the budding shuttlers to showcase their talent.
