Sensation prevails in Chirang after a physically-challenged minor girl was allegedly raped by a quack (kabiraj) in the morning on Saturday at Narzari village under Garubhasa Police Outpost in the district.

Assam Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma, representatives of various organisations, Chirang Superintendent of Police and Additional SP visited the spot and took stock of the situation on Sunday.

The victim is an 11-year-old girl.

The accused has been identified as Azgar Ali. As per his mobile number (7635892830), he is from Bilasipara of Dhubri district.

He has been on the run after the incident.

According to sources, on Saturday, around 8.45 am, the quack had visited the victim’s house for treatment of the girl and taking advantage of the girl’s loneliness at her house raped her.

An FIR has been lodged at Garubhasa Police Outpost under Sidli Police Station by the victim’s father.

“An unidentified man introducing himself as a doctor (quack) arrived at our home during my absence today at 8.45 am. Stating that he had medicines for the treatment of my daughter’s disability, the unidentified doctor gave medicines. But saying that she had no money with her at that moment, my wife went out in search of money from a neighbour,” the father of the victim girl stated in the FIR.

In the FIR, he also stated, “But on her return, my wife witnessed my daughter being raped by the unidentified man. My wife immediately  made hue and cry. But the accused was able to flee with his motorcycle.”

The victim’s father in his FIR also informed that the unidentified doctor (quack) used to visit their village and gave his mobile number to some of the villagers to contact him in case they want his treatment.

The medical examination of the victim was conducted at Kajalgaon Jwhwlao Swmbla hospital in Chirang district.

The incident has sparked uproar and sensation in the area with the locals and various organizations demanding immediate arrest of the culprit and punish him with death penalty.

Assam Tourism Minister and local (Sidli) MLA Chandan Brahma on Sunday visited the victim’s family and took stock of the situation and condemned the rape incident. The minister urged the police to arrest the culprit and punish him accordingly.

The minister also appealled to all the organizations and people to cooperate the police to arrest the culprit.

Bodoland Janajati Suraksa Manch (BJSM) working president Daorai Dekreb Narzary along with his colleagues visited the home of the victim’s family and demanded the police to nab the culprit as soon as possible.

BJSM also demanded that the accused be be punished by hanging in public.

Narzary also urged the Central Government, State Government, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and the district administration to protect the tribals belts and blocks.

A team of All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) leaders have also demanded that the culprit should not be spared at any cost and the district administration has to take initiative to arrest Ali within a short time.
