Assam: Post training assistance to OIL’s HTPC trainees in Dibrugarh

As a part of the ongoing CSR project under Oil India Rural Development Society (OIRDS), trainees of Handicraft Training & Production Centre (HTPC) were provided with post training assistance in a ceremony held at HTPC complex, Duliajan in Dibrugarh district of eastern Assam on Saturday, a press communique received in Jorhat said.

Post training assistance like sewing machine, fly shuttle hand loom sets and weaving and embroidery accessories along with certificate were provided to 31 successfully passed out trainees for the year 2017-18 to encourage them to be self-employed.

B P Sarma, resident chief executive, OIL graced the function as chief guest while Pranjit Deka, ED (HR&A) and Advisor (OIRDS), M C Nihalani, CGM (R&D) and president OIRDS, D K Bhuyan, GM (PA) and vice president (OIRDS), Nripen Kumar Sarma, DGM (FE) and Secretary (OIRDS), N M Dutta, Manager (CSR) & Joint Secretary (HTPC) and other senior officials of OIL were present on the occasion.

OIL’s flagship social welfare project Handicraft Training and Production Centre was instituted in 1984 as a silver jubilee project of the company.

This institute is run by Oil India Rural Development Society (OIRDS) under direct patronage of Oil India Limited.

Young women from OIL’s operational areas are imparted 11 months free training in weaving, embroidery, cutting and knitting in this centre along with a monthly stipend of Rs 1500.

Three decades ago, OIL took initiative to imbibe sense of self sufficiency among rural women folk and is still pursuing it with same zeal and enthusiasm.

Till date more than 970 women have completed training from this institute.
