After killing of two youths at Kangthilangso under Dokmoka Police Station on suspicion of being ‘child-lifters’ amidst spread of rumours and various messages going viral on the social media platforms, two other youths, who were assaulted by locals, were rescued in Bhoksong in West Karbi Anglong by the police.
On Friday evening, villagers accosted two persons, who were allegedly loitering around. The villagers asked the duo about their names and addresses. On not getting answers to their satisfaction, they started physically assaulting them.

Fortunately, the police from Dalimbari Patrol Outpost came to know about it and rescued the two.
The villagers, who were still not pacified, marched to the Dalimbari Patrol Outpost and damaged furniture there. Somehow, the Dalimbari Patrol Outpost In-charge was able to bring the victims to Baithalangso Police Station.
Till Friday evening, the two youths were under the custody of Baithalangso Police.

The police, as a precaution that such incidents do not repeat in the future, held an awareness meeting at Baithalangso Police Station.

The awareness meeting was attended by West Karbi Anglong Superintendent of Police, Inamul Haque.
At Bhoksong, West Karbi Anglong, a similar meeting was held. The meeting was attended by Member of Autonomous Council (MAC), Prabhat Taro along with village headmen.
At the meeting, MAC Taro urged the villagers not to take law in their own hands. If any unknown person or persons are seen in the area they should hand over him or them to the police.
Semson Teron-led Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) condemned the killing of two youths at Panjari Kachari Basti, Dengaon in Karbi Anglong on suspicion of being child lifters.
KSA said the untimely death of the two young men is a very sad and painful incident. All sections of people of Assam are requested not to take the incident in the communal lines. KSA said, “Let the law take its own course.”
Meanwhile, the mortal remains of the two youths – Nilotpal Das and Abhijit Nath – who were lynched at Panjuri village under Dokmoka PS in Karbi Anglong on Friday evening, reached their home city, Guwahati.
On the other hand, a youth, identified as Bhupendra Terang, who was allegedly involved in spreading rumours of the presence of ‘child-lifters’ in Karbi Anglong on the social media platform, has been arrested by Diphu Police on Saturday.
