The Election Commission (EC) has transferred the Returning Officer of Karimganj Lok Sabha (LS) Constituency of Assam, Phani Bhushan Roy.
Reports stated that Roy, who is also the deputy commissioner of Karimganj, was transferred after Central observers complained against him.
The Central observers complained to EC that Roy did not have a “scant of idea about his constituency” and also about his “non-performance”.

Roy was shifted on a day when the first phase of Lok Sabha polls was held in five constituencies of Assam.
The EC has sent Abhinav Chandra as the general observer of Karimaganj Lok Sabha seat while Sanjeev Kumar Kalra is the police observer.
MS Manivannan, director of state agriculture department, replaced Roy, as per Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) sources.
Karimganj is going to the polls on April 18 next – the second phase of pollings in Assam.
