One policeman was injured during clashes between protestors and security personnel while the agitating members of the Sonipur district units of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) and the Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) were trying to enter the Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner’s office during theor ‘Jail Bharo’ programme.
The clash started when the police resorted to baton charge the protestors.
More than hundred AIKS-CITU members first went towards the Tezpur Central Jail and when the police sent back them from that place, they came to the Deputy Commissioner’s office and tried to cross the barricade and had a clash with the police.
The AIKS-CITU staged nationwide protest against mis-governance of the BJP-led Central Government and shouted slogans like Narendra Modi Hai, Hi; BJP Hai Hai, etc.
In order to control the situation, the district administration ordered to arrest all of the protesters, said District Magistrate Pankaj Chamua. “During baton charge, no CITU member was injured,” he said.
Chamua also said that the order of baton charge was issued only as a situation control measure but during the clash, one of the police personnel got injured.
The protesters gathered near the Hem Baruah Hall here. CITU is the trade union body of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).
