Guwahati: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in Cachar, Assam, has been arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on charges of bribery.
The arrested officer has been identified as Noma Uddin Ahmed.

He was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a complainant.
According to a complaint filed with the DVAC, ASI Ahmed had initially demanded Rs 6,000 to recover the complainant’s stolen motorcycle.

He later reduced the demanded amount to Rs 4,000.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the DVAC.
A trap was subsequently set and the accused police officer was nabbed from the Ghungoor Out Post where he was posted.

The DVAC team apprehended him after he accepted the bribe money from the complainant in his quarters.
The tainted money has been recovered and seized in the presence of witnesses.
A case under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, has been registered against ASI Ahmed at the ACB Police Station (ACB PS Case No. 20/2024).
Further investigation has been initiated.
