The vigilant forest staff of the Orang National Park & Tiger Reserve and police have been able to foil an attempt of organized rhino poaching in the park when a joint operation team of forest and police on the basis of a tip-off on Saturday night nabbed three poachers.

The nabbed poachers have been identified as Noor Zamal Rahman , Sadikul Islam and Niyamat Ali from Bosa-Simalu village along the eastern border of the forest under Dhekiajuli Police Station of Sonitpur district.

Chakrapani Roy, range officer of the Orang National Park & Tiger Reserve informed the media that the three along with two others had prepared a plan to enter into the national park for poaching of rhino. The nabbed poachers, as per sources, have revealed it during preliminary interrogations.

Forest official Roy further informed that the gang possesses fire weapons like .303 rifle to kill rhino and they were on the lookout of it, which is suspected to have taken away by the absconding members of the gang.

According to Range officer Roy, a seven-member poachers’ gang made plans to enter into the park last month and their attempt could be successfully averted when two of their gang members have been arrested.

He went on to claim that due to proper vigilance of forest staff and police, the poachers could not kill any rhino in the national park for the last one year.

On Sunday, the arrested poachers were produced before the court to take back in their custody for further interrogations, sources added.
