The Peoples’ Joint Action Committee for Boroland Movement (PJACBM) urged the government of India to expedite the dialogue with the National Democratic Front of Boroland – Progressive (NDFB-P) and find a lasting solution to the long standing demand for creation of Boroland statehood.

It also urged the government of India to expedite the talks with the ULFA, Adivasi groups and other insurgent groups of Assam and Northeast India in the interest of peace, harmony and all round development.

Addressing reporters at a presmeet at Kokrajhar Pres Club on Friday, PJACBM chief convenor Rakesh Boro said the PJACBM which is an inclusive people’s forum of more than 56 organizations representing all communities living in proposed Boroland has been stressing and pressurizing for an amicable solution for the decade old vexed Boroland statehood issue through advocacy and peaceful democratic movement.

He said it has been more than 13 years that the NDFB-P is in ceasefire with the government of India through several rounds of formal and informal discussion has been held politically, officially and with the designated interlocutor but still solution is not in sight.

Boro said for the last several years, two interlocutors have failed to bring solution with the NDFB-P. At present A B Mathur is in charge since last year and has been having talks with the NDFB-P and other armed groups.

“The PJACBM is waiting with hope that his capability and sincere effort would accomplish the task given to him,” he said adding, “PJACBM has long been longing for a permanent and amicable solution to the Boroland statehood issue but time to time insincere and negligence by the govt is disgusting.

“The poll commitment of 2014 is a decisiveness example that the govt has failed to keep the promise within the stipulated period,” he added,

The leaders of the organization also urged the Prime Minister, Home Minister and the chief minister of Assam that in the greater interest of peace and all round development the government should initiate special preference to the insurgency matter of the Northeast as important an necessity and come up with a lasting solution to the insurgency problems.

The press meet was also attended by adviser of All Assam Bengali Stuents Federation Sushil Das, president United Muslim Minority Council Md Usuf Ali, general secretary Goria Moria Desi janagostia Parishad Fazlul Karim Hazarika and general secretary of Unite Gorkha Forum Shekar Sharma among others.
