Acting on a tip-off, Gauripur Police of Dhubri district in Assam and Army has launched a joint search operation at Gauripur town of Dhubri district and arrested one person with arms and ammunition on Monday.
Police sources revealed that based on specific information, a joint operation was launched and the troops of Army with police has established a checking point (naka) at the Gauripur town bus stand on National Highway 31 in the wee hours of Monday and recovered one Chinese made 7.65 mm pistol and other objectionable documents from the possession of one Md Hasem Ali who was travelling in a Dhubri bound bus.
The arrested youth is a local resident under Golakganj Police station of Dhubri district while the bus was coming from Guwahati.
The accused along with recovered items were handed over to Gauripur Police Station for further investigation.
Nirupam Hazarika, additional supertendent of police (HQ), Dhubri said that a case bearing No 812/2019 under relevant sections of Arms Act has been lodged against the alleged person and police has sought five days police custody from the court for further investigation into the matter.
“The matter is under investigation and it would be hurry to speak anything of which militants groups the arrested person actually belongs,” said Hazarika.
