Gauhati University NSS Cell successfully concluded NSS special camping programme at the adopted Sunapur village near Guwahati on Monday.
A group of NSS volunteers surveyed in the Sonapur village under the supervision of Dr Ranjan Kr Kakati, director, Students’ Welfare, Gauhati University & Programme Coordinator, GU NSS Cell.
In the socio economic survey, the volunteers collected data in the field of health, sanitation, unemployment problems, drinking water facility and income source of the people, Agriculture etc.
The volunteers also make awareness programme among the villagers in sanitation, total open defecation free and entrepreneurship scopes for the villagers.
As a part of special camping programme, a lecture on ‘Self Knowledge, Skill Yourself’ was delivered by Dipankar Mahanta to motivate the NSS volunteers.
A plantation programme at University campus was also carried out by the NSS volunteers and around 50 saplings were planted by the group including the programme coordinator, DSW Staff and employees.
Consumption of local alcohol is a serious issue in the surveyed village and the volunteers tried to motivate the youths of the village to make the area alcohol free.
The NSS volunteers were also provided information about various central and state government schemes that may be avail by the villagers.
The villagers showed satisfactory response to the steps taken by NSS Team of Gauhati University campus.
