Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the district administration of Darrang for developing it into an ‘Aspirational district’ as part of NRL’s CSR initiative.

A press communique issued by Assistant Manager, Corporate Communications, NRL, Priyanka Hazarika said that the MoU was signed recently between CGM (HR I/c,) NRL Debashish Choudhury and Superintendent, Mangaldai Civil Hospital Kalyan Chandra Borah in presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner N N Nath, Assistant. Commissioner Hemashri Khanikar representing the Darrang district administration.

The MoU will enable developmental work in the focus areas of Health and Nutrition and Education in the Darrang district aiming to uplift the region and compete as one of the best districts in the State and the country.

NRL has already taken up projects in the aforesaid areas and will start with the project of improving logistics and infrastructure facilities of the Mangaldai Civil Hospital in Darrang district.

The ‘Aspirational district’ programme was launched by the Prime Minister on January 5, 2018.

It aims to rapidly transform the districts that have shown relatively lesser progress in key social areas and have emerged as pockets of under-development, thereby posing a challenge to ensure balanced regional development.

Out of the 115 districts identified by NITI Aayog across the country under the ‘Aspirational district’ programme, seven districts viz. Darrang, Dhubri, Barpeta, Goalpara, Baksa, Udalguri and Hailakandi from Assam are in the race, the communique further said.
