A successful advanced Angioplasty procedure was performed on a high risk patient under the guidance of Dr Ritankur Barkotoky, consultant interventional cardiologist at Narayana Superspeciality Hospital of Guwahati in Assam.
Patient’s condition and quality of life improved following the procedure adding years to her life.
The patient was under weight and suffering from multiple co-morbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, advanced kidney disease and severe anaemia.
The complex procedure that she underwent is called Rotablation followed by angioplasty and stenting in the left main coronary artery.
Rotablation procedure is performed when a very hard calcium deposition occurs within the lumen of the artery which cannot be removed by conventional angioplasty and stenting.
After removing all the calcium deposited in the artery by rotablation, conventional angioplasty and stenting is done to open the arteries.
Though the patient was referred for an open heart surgery, but because of multiple risk factors, surgery was avoided.
Dr Barkotoky said, “Advanced Angioplasty techniques now-a-days can tackle many complicated diseases of coronaries particularly in patients having multiple problems like her or any other conditions where open heart surgery remains a challenge even now.”
Narayana Superspeciality Hospital Guwahati has been offering various types of surgeries such as general surgeries, micro surgeries, minimally invasive surgeries, etc in the region with quality care and treatment at the most affordable rates.
