Earlier in July this year, in a crackdown against teer betting in Dhubri district, nine persons were apprehended by police from different locations. Of late, illegal activities like gambling are on the rise in Nagaon town. Areas such as Haibargaon Bridge, Mullapatty, Morikolong, etc., have become the den of such illegal activities, and this has become a major cause of concern for the local residents and passersby.

The surprising fact is that some areas like Haibargaon Bridge are just a stone’s throw away from the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office and the Superintendent of Police’s (SP) office and, yet, teer-khel is going on merrily. Mostly people like daily wage earners, rickshaw pullers etc., fall prey to such gangs and lose all their money.
