Assam: Movement of heavy commercial vehicles between Jatinga-Harangajao on NH-27 prohibited

Guwahati: The Assam Police has prohibited movement of heavy commercial vehicles between the Jatinga and Harangajao stretch along the National Highway-27 (NH-27) in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.

Due to frequent rainfalls, subsidence of land and road surface and on-going construction works, the plying of heavy commercial vehicles with 12-wheels or more, including long trucks and trailers (more than 24 feet in length) has been temporarily prohibited in between the stretch of Jatinga to Harangajao of the NH 27 within Dima Hasao district, Assam Police CPRO, Pranabjyoti Goswami, said in a press statement early Wednesday (September 4, 2024) morning.

Therefore, all such heavy vehicles – 12 wheelers or more and long trucks and trailers, travelling to and from Barak Valley, and further should take the alternative route via Meghalaya (National Highway-6) till further orders, CPRO Goswami added.

The NH-27, an east-west national highway, starts in Gujarat’s Porbandar and ends in Assam’s Silchar. The highway passes through Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Assam.

In Assam, the highway transits across Bongaigaon, Bijni, Howly, Patacharkuchi, Nalbari, Rangiya, Guwahati, Nagaon, Hojai, Lanka, Lumding, Haflong and Silchar.
