Close on the heels of money being snatched from a person in Jorhat about four days back, two men on a motorcycle sans number plate, snatched a bag containing Rs 1.5 lakh from a woman on Monday.

The incident took place at Thana Road here, about 200 metres away from the Jorhat Police Station.
A police source stated as per complaint lodged by the woman – Mallika Rahman Hazarika – a retired teacher and secretary of Sarathi, an NGO that runs an old-age home in Lichubari, two youths wearing full masked helmets and riding pillion, snatched the bag containing Rs 1.5 lakh from her after she had alighted from her car to go to a shop to purchase construction materials for the old age home.

Hazarika had withdrawn the money from a bank at KB Road here earlier in the day. In a similar incident on Monday, two motorcycle-borne youths were unsuccessful in snatching a bag containing Rs 10 lakh from Rajkumar Dowerah, a businessman. He was dragged for about 25 feet by the youths and suffered minor injuries.

The incident occurred at AT Road here after Dowerah had withdrawn the money from SBI Jorhat branch. On April 5 last, two miscreants on a motorbike again without a number plate, reportedly snatched a bag containing Rs 1.5 lakh from a woman who was riding pillion on a motorcycle near the Bhogdoi River bridge at AT Road.

The woman, identified as Rupa Kalita of Pokamara Kamargaon on the outskirts of Jorhat, had withdrawn the money from a bank here.
