Dhemaji: The 9th Mising Youth Festival began at Silapathar Kareng Chapori (near Bogibeel Bridge) in Dhemaji district on Sunday (February 4) amidst bad weather with the participation of the delegates and artists hailing from different districts of the state and neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh.

The Kareng Chapori sandbar on the right bank of Brahmaputra on Sunday became the hub of the Mising tribe as several thousand community people assembled at the Mising Youth Festival venue wearing traditional attire.

Mising Student Union — Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK), the central committee is organizing the festival with the help of local villagers of the Silapathar area.

The main objective of the youth festival is to inculcate a sense of responsibility among youths of the ethnic tribe for the protection and promotion of their cultures, which is related to their rural livelihood.

The inaugural programme of the four-day festive event included the opening of the delegate camp by prominent Mising artist and organizing committee adviser Ekalabya Gam (Pangging) and the opening of the delegate camp.

The second-day programme on Monday includes flag hoisting and paying homage to martyrs which is followed by the ceremonial opening of the main gates, stage, exhibition stalls and melas by the invited dignitaries and cultural programmes.

The event also includes seminars on ‘Tourism and Hospitality Management” and “New prospect and potentialities in agriculture and allied sector” on the third day. The agenda also includes a series of display music bands and competitions of traditional sports, and literary and cultural items such as fashion shows with traditional dresses.

There will be an open meeting and valedictory programme on the concluding day.

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu and several other dignitaries are expected to grace the festive event on a concluding day.

It is said that the Mising Youth Festival will be a calendar event from next year which is fixed to host in the first week of February.

The Mising Autonomous Council (MAC) has developed the festival ground covering with erection of permanent structures to organize the festival at the venue every year.
