Three children of migrant labourers from Assam got drowned in a stone quarry pond while fishing.
As per reports, the incident occurred in Mathigiri, a town located in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu. The children were staying with their parents in Anchettipalli near Mathigiri.
The trio have been identified as M Babu (12), R Ajay (13) and R Lakshmi (7). The children’s parents’ work as daily labourers for private companies in Hosur.
Ajay and his sister Lakshmi went with Babu and his mother, 32-year-old Mona, to the pond for fishing. When Mona went to attend nature’s call, the trio, in a playful mood, entered the pond and got drowned as they did not know how to swim.
On returning, Mona found all the three children battling for life and almost on the verge of getting drowned and screamed for help. On hearing her screaming, the villagers rushed near the pond and alerted the Mathigiri police.
A police official said that by the time the villagers came to rescue them, the children had already got drowned. The Mathigiri police has sent the bodies to the Hosur government hospital for postmortem. Police have registered a case and further inquiries are on.
