Assam: Massive raids against illicit liquor continue in Sivasagar district

Crusade against illicit liquor continued unabated in Sivasagar district of eastern Assam on Sunday also.

On Sunday morning, a team led by Ashutosh Baruah, inspector of Excise, Nazira, Ashutosh Baruah along with armed forces from Galaky police station and an officer conducted raids at places like Galaky Lakon Gaon,Trivel Block, Kacharigaon, Moran Gaon etc.

Similar raids were also conducted in the evening at places like Hatipotty tea estate and its various lines, Mekipur tea estate and its various lines etc.

The seized liquor included F/ Wash 4,200 Ltrs , D/A 12 sets, IDL 246 Ltrs, Pachowai 35 Ltrs and various items used for making liquor.

The seized liqour and equipment were destroyed on the spot.

A case has been registered under section 53 (1)a ,d and 53 (2)c of the Assam Excise Act 2018.

According to the Excise official, all the dens in the areas where raids were conducted have been destroyed.

Similar raids were also carried out by the Excise Department along with Demow police station which was led by executive magistrate of Demow revenue circle in places like Rajmai and Saragua areas.

Around 7000 litres of illicit liquor were destroyed during the raids.

The report of the seizure has already been sent to the government online.

The Excise department in Sivasagar district has stepped up vigil against spurious country liqour after the hooch tragedy in Golaghat and Jorhat districts have claimed almost 150 lives during last three days.
