Assam: Massive eviction drive at Jorabat to mitigate artificial floods

An eviction drive was carried out by the Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration in the Jorabat area to clear a roadside drain on Thursday.

Under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (M) Virendra Mittal, a team of district administration comprising of Additional Deputy Commissioners P Mahanta, N Pathak, P P Bora and R Knowar, Circle Officer of Sonapur Revenue Circle J Y Choudhury with the officials of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) carried out the eviction drive against the illegal encroachment on the land of the drain.

The eviction drive was taken place beneath the Jorabat flyover and Ambher area.

In this eviction along with 42 RCC structure the approach of Shyam Cock and S M Global Cock Pvt Ltd were demolished by the team.

Along with the eviction, the drain parallel to the NH 37 was also cleared and dug up to 28 feet.

Beneath the over bridge approximately an area of 200 meters and in Ambher area six to seven bighas of lands are made encroachment free.

It is worth mentioning that around four kathas of land illegally encroached by S M Global Cock Pvt Ltd was also cleared.

Due to the encroachment on the drain the water bearing capacity of the drain was decreased.

And for that the people of these two areas have been suffering from the artificial flood. The eviction operation will be continued on Friday also.
