North Lakhimpur: Unabated erosion by the Brahmaputra River has caused devastating damages to the check bund in the Sisi-Tekeliphuta embankment in Maatmora in the Dhakuakhana sub-division of Lakhimpur district.
The erosion, which has been continuing since the mid-April this year swept away geo-bags and geo-carpets of the erosion protection measures of the check bund at Bandena on the Sisi-Tekeliphuta embankment on Sunday.
A stretch of 50 meters of the No. 6 spar of the check bund constructed at the cost of Rs. 10 crore under State Owned Priority Development (SOPD-G) of the year 2022-23 has been damaged by the erosion of the Brahmaputra.
The erosion also has swept away 15 concrete porcupine protectors on the upstream area of the embankment.
The massive erosion by the Brahmaputra in the pre-monsoon season has also threatened the two land spars at nearby Baghchuk in Maatmora which was constructed recently at the cost of Rs 17.2 crores under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) by NABARD.
