In a shocking case of suspected witch hunting, a man was beaten to death at Parbatjhora’s Madati in Gauripur, Dhubri district of Assam.

According to the police, villagers suspected that he knew some black magic tricks. The deceased has been identified as Nijay Rabha.

According to a reports in a local media, villagers had attacked five persons including deceased Nijay Rabha of the village as people believed that they knew black magic tricks.

Manuj Rabha, Sarati Rabha, Jadav Rabha and Parimal Rabha were also injured in the attack.

Branding women as witches is particularly prevalent among tribal communities of the state. Police said that they were looking for other people involved in the matter.

The only way to stop the witch hunting violence is to raise awareness on the issue.
