Guwahati: Close on the heels of apprehending a Manipur youth with drone batteries, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam police has arrested an individual while he was trying to transport drone parts for Manipur-based terrorist groups.
In its continued and determined efforts to put an end to the transportation of unauthorised materials to Manipur so that peace and tranquillity prevail in the region, the STF late Saturday conducted another operation and arrested an individual from the city’s Rupnagar area and recovered drone parts from his possession, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Assam Police, Pranabjyoti Goswami, said in a statement on Sunday.

A case has been registered in this regard at the STF police station in Guwahati under section 121 (wage war against the government of India) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) read with 16/18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. The operation is seen as a huge success in terms of thwarting a major sabotage attempt in violence-hit Manipur, it further said.
On Friday, the STF apprehended a youth from Manipur for allegedly procuring and transporting drone batteries purportedly to carry out sabotage activities. Sleuths of the STF recovered a total of 10 TB30 Intelligent Flight Batteries suspected to be used in drones, Rs 3.40 lakh cash, four pairs of shoes and a mobile phone handset, from the vehicle the accused was travelling in.
