A major fire broke out in high steam line on Thursday of Oil India Limited (OIL) operational area of Duliajan. No injury or casualties has, however, been reported so far.

The fire broke out at two wells of Oil India Limited near Naoholia Jutlibari under Duliajan police station in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district on Saturday night after thieves tried to steal condensed oil from the wells.

According to information, twelve fire tenders were pressed service which managed to douse the flame after seven hours.

Sources said several items used for oil theft like valve, gas cutter have been recovered from the spot. Duliajan constituency MLA Terosh Gowala slammed OIL for their negligence and not deploying security personnel in the wells.

“These types of incidents are common in the area because the thieves are very much active.  They use sophisticated method to steal oil from Oil wells. The Oil management has failed to provide security in the Oil wells,” said a source.
