The Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress on Monday protested against Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s derogatory remarks against Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati.
The Mahila Congress workers burnt effigies of the Haryana chief minister Khattar and demanded an immediate apology from him.
They also shouted various slogans against Khattar for his remarks.
While addressing a rally at Kaithal in Haryana on Sunday, Khattar had said that after Rahul Gandhi had resigned as the Congress president following a defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress had searched for a new president across entire country for three months and finding no suitable person they had made Sonia Gandhi the Congress president.
“They dug up a mountain and what came out was a rat and that too dead (Khoda Pahad Nikli Chuhiya, Vo Bhi Mari Hui),” Khattar remarked.
He also claimed that the Congress can see nothing beyond the Gandhi family.
The president of the All India Mahila Congress Sushmita Dev said that Khattar’s harsh remarks against Sonia Gandhi are a clear reflection of his and the BJP’s disrespectful attitude towards women and demanded an apology from him.
She also claimed that Khattar had failed to ensure the security of women in Haryana and incidents of rape, abduction and kidnapping are on the rise in the state.
