The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana scheme under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India which envisages to provide good all-weather road connectivity to unconnected villages has reported gross negligence and alleged sub-standard works at Orang in Udalguri district.
According to reports,the construction work of Champabari to Phulaguri road including cross drainage under PMGY 2017-18, Batch 2, the foundation stone of which was laid by Mangaldai parliamentarian, Ramen Deka on October 13, 2018 at an estimate amount of Rs 211.57 lakhs for a stretch of 4.3 kms have started deteriorating due to the alleged use of sub-standard materials.
The complain of aggrieved locals had also forced the officials posted at PMGSY division to visit the site but to no avail. The locals have alleged that the officials in sheer abuse of their official position and in connivance with the contractor have allowed use of sub-standard materials flouting norms in the execution of the work, for conferring undue pecuniary benefit upon the contractor in brazen violation of bill of quantities and rate contract.
The locals have demanded the intervention of the higher authorities and concerned department to conduct an inquiry into the matter and book the guilty.
