Acting promptly, the Goalpara district police rescued a college student on Tuesday night and also nabbed his abductors within 7 hours of the incident.

The police also seized a pick-up van (registration No AS18C-9867) used in the kidnapping.

According to police sources, Hasidur Ali, son of a teacher, Afsar Ali, a resident of Fofonga Part-1 under Agia PS, was abducted from Balbala bus stand by a group of six people on Tuesday at around 3 pm.

Hasidur, a student of Higher Secondary (HS) first year at SR Academy of Goalpara town, arrived at the bus stand after his home visit and was returning to the academy.

As he was picked up, several eyewitnesses made hue and cry and reported the matter to Hasidur’s family.

Hasidur’s family after a primary search filed an FIR at the Agia PS.

“We were informed a bit late,” Umacharan Roy, officer-in-charge of Agia PS, told Northeast Now.

“As the area is surrounded by smooth roads connecting Assam, Meghalaya and West Bengal, it was a tough job to trek the abductors,” Roy added.

However, the police team under the supervision of Goalpara additional superintendent of police (ASP) Amitav Basumatary launched a throughout operation.

Several check posts were set up blocking the exit points and around at 10 pm, Hasidur along with his six abductors were nabbed by police as they were trying to escape towards Meghalaya.

The abductors have been identified as Somed Ali, Abdul Rahim, Sohidul Hoque, Azahar Ali from Fofonga and Mahadev Das and Jayanta Biswas from Kalpani Part-1 village under the Agia PS.

“Hasidur was kept in the jungle near the Urpad Beel close to NH-17 and the abductors were waiting for the opportunity to flee to Meghalaya,” said Amitav Basumatary.

Meanwhile, cross-section of people, including the students’ community, thanked the police for rescuing the boy within a short period.
