The Assam government have issued notification for the declaration of town committees in Karbi Anglong under the administrative control of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) as municipal boards.
A reliable source in KAAC secretariat said that notification for the declaration was issued by the State Government last year. But for the declaration there are some formalities to be completed in the Council after that a few of the town committees which have the norms to be a municipal board will be declared as such.
In Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong there are nine town committees in all which are under the administrative control of KAAC.
The election for the town committees in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong were held this year on January 8 last. During the campaign, Assam Cabinet minister Sum Ronghang has said that Diphu Town Committee will soon be declared a municipal board.
Also, new vehicles procured for Bokajan Town Committee have ‘Bokajan Municipal Board’ written on them. So, Diphu Town Committee and Bokajan Town Committee have booked its berth to be declared as municipal boards. There may be others as well.
Chairman, Diphu Town Committee, Rah Kro expressed his happiness at the development. He said, “If Diphu Town Committee will be declared a municipal board fund will increase many fold. A few additional vehicles have already arrived.”
