The general secretary of Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (KADCC) Bidyasing Rongpi on Tuesday has tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the party citing personal reasons.

Rongpi was loyal to the party for a longtime.

In his resignation letter addressed to KADCC, president, former MP Birensing Engti, Rongpi said, “I shall have to be busy in my domestic matter due to which I may not be able to continue in rendering my service towards the party upto the mark of requirement. As such, it will be better for me and for the party.”

“I, therefore, hereby tender my resignation on this 9th of July, 2019, thereby abandoning my membership of the party and oblige.”

Rongpi has not mentioned whether he will continue with his political career by joining any other party.

Before and after the poll debacle in the recent Lok Sabha election, the KADCC has seen important grass roots leaders resigning in Karbi Anglong.

The BJP MP from 3 Diphu (ST) Autonomous District Horen Sing Bey won with 61.7 per cent of the total polled valid votes.

Rongpi was the media in-charge of the KADCC.

The resignation of such a long time party loyalist has created a flutter in the Congress party in the hill district.

It shows the further loss of Congress party foot soldiers in the district which will impact its poll prospect in the next Assembly election.
