Come February, Assam will start issuing Aadhaar card to its residents like the rest of the country. The Aadhaar process was delayed in the state with the imminent publication of NRC draft, to root out illegal migrants from the state.
Under the Gram Panchayat, 33 districts of Assam will get the Aadhaar card from 7995 centres. 28 Aadhaar Seva Kendras will be set across the State for the smooth running of the process.
Earlier the issue of Aadhaar process was delayed due to shortage of manpower which was scheduled to be completed by 31 December 2017.
Aadhaar card is mandatory for all the people living in India, as a primary identity proof. Assam and Jammu & Kashmir are the two states in India where the process has yet to be started.
After some years of uncertainty, people of the State will finally be able to enroll themselves for Aadhaar cards. Dispur has cleared the decks to begin the process. All necessary measures have been put in place for the process to kick-start including necessary administrative mechanism.
