The Directorate General of Civil Defence and Commandant General of Home Guards, Assam celebrated the All India Civil Defence and Home Guards Day on Thursday at the Central Training Institute in Panikhaiti of Guwahati.
Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, Kumar Sanjay Krishna attended the programme as the Chief Guest. Addressing the function, the Additional Chief Secretary said that Civil Defence and Home Guards have played an important role by maintaining law and order as well as during the times of disaster.

He added that the Civil Defence and Home Guards have been discharging selfless duties and services for the common people at large.
He commended them for their service and hope that they will continue to serve the people with greater zeal and enthusiasm.
At the outset of the programme, the Chief Guest was given the guard of honour by the parade contingents.

The Additional Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna released a souvenir of the Civil Defence and Home Guards on the occasion.
He also gave away the President’s Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Distinguished service to Lakhiram Bordoloi, Dy DCD & Dy CGHG, Assam which was conferred on August 15 last.
President’s Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Meritorious Service to Nabajyoti Borah, Senior Staff Officer (A) cum Principal, CTI (CD) & HG), Panikhaiti and Mukut Ali, Subedar, ASRF Bn-I, Barjhar, Nalbari which was also conferred during August 15 last year.
He also gave away the DGCD’S Commendation Medal 2018 to Nabajyoti Borah, Senior Staff Officer (A) cum Principal, CTI (CD & HG), Panikhaiti, Guwahati, Tapan Barman, Senior Staff Officer (G), O/o DGCD & CGHG, Assam, Basanta Sarma, District Commandant, Home Guards, Silchar, Manali Das, District Commandant, Mangaldoi, Bibekananda Chetia, Subedar District HG Office, Lakhimpur, Kamini Kumar Bhagawati, Subedar, ASRF Bn-I, Barjhar, Nalbari, Nil Kishore Boro, Platoon Commander, Homeswar Barman, Havildar, Hari Bahadur Pradhan, Constable/204, and Shyamal Kr Nath, guardsman in the programme.
Director General of Civil Defence and Commandant General of Home Guards, Assam, Pallab Bhattacharyya also addressed the gathering and said that the selected home guards would be put into work very soon.
A beautiful parade was displayed by the Civil Defence and Home Guards Contingents during the programme.
