Police on Thursday recovered huge cache of banned contraband worth over Rs 20 lakhs from a vehicle at Karigaon in Kokrajhar district of Assam.
The vehicle with registration no NL-02-6508 was coming from Tripura and was on way towards West Bengal.
Kokrajhar police station officer in-charge J Barman said based on inputs, a search operation was carried out in the vehicle at Karigapn along the National Highway 3-C and recovered 18 numbers of contraband packets weighing about one quintal, worth Rs 20 lakhs in the market.
The driver of the vehicle Shyam Kumar Mahato was detained.
Mahato hails from Jalalpur village in Samastipur district of Bihar.
