In the line of fraudsters who randomly make hoax calls to people for their bank account details, now the crooks have come up with new and ingenious methods to con gullible persons – a promise to install a cell phone tower on terraces or open lands, and earning heavy returns is the latest.
Persons from different parts of the Assam including a good number of people in various parts of Udalguri district have reportedly been receiving such hoax calls and messages in their social media handles.
The people of the district have been getting phone calls from 7890260563, where lady identifying herself to be a customer care executive of Reliance Jio promises to install Jio cell phone towers after payment of processing fee.
The persons are lured of Rs 50,00 to Rs 70,000 per month in return.
Though no report has emerged of people falling prey to the fraud, such nefarious attempts may befool many.
Though to get cell phone towers installed, the interested persons should approach the companies through their websites only when the company reaches the people, but interestingly such hoax calls have became talk of the town.
Though no police complaint has been lodged by any aggrieved persons, its high time the common people remain conscious and alert against such fraudsters.
“None of the telecom companies collects any commission from the land-owner and the agents who have been given the task of tower installations. We have been strictly advised on the matter,” said an official of a tower installation company based in Guwahati.
