The Governor of Assam, Professor Jagdish Mukhi, will begin a two-day visit to Dhubri district starting Thursday. As per available information, the Governor, who will reach Dhubri on Thursday at 9.30 am, will first offer prayers at the Gurdwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib in Dhubri and thereafter he will inspect the work being carried out under the Swachh Bharat Mission programme at different schools, colleges and offices in Dhubri.

Thereafter, Mukhi will meet people’s representatives and organisations involved in social work and political party leaders at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri in the afternoon. The people’s representatives also can meet him in person and submit their petitions.

The Governor will meet media persons for an hour from 7 pm to 8 pm at the Deputy Commissioner (DC) office conference hall. On Friday, Mukhi will visit the Asharikandi village popular for terracotta art and then will leave for Kokrajhar.

Asharikandi is a village in Debitola development block in Dhubri district of Assam. The village is famous for its traditional arts – terracotta and pottery. In fact, it is one of the largest clusters of terracotta and pottery in India. More than 80 per cent families of this village are engaged in this ethnic art and keep their home fires burning selling terracotta items in the national and international market.
