In view of the ceasing of operations of packed LPG trucks from September 8 last by the North Eastern Packed LPG Transporters Association in support of their various demands, a meeting was conducted by the Principal Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department of Assam with the higher officials of IOCL authority on Wednesday to take stock of the situation and for discussing the issues raised by the Association.
Necessary instructions in this regard have been sent to deputy commissioners and superintendent of polices of Kamrup, Tinsukia, Cachar, Chirang and Dibrugarh with information to Director General of Police, Assam, requesting them to take necessary action in order to ensure that the entry points/gates to the LPG bottling plants under their respective jurisdiction are kept open, enabling smooth passage of the vehicles/employees/ workers to the bottling plants.
Further, they were also requested to take up appropriate steps for maintaining law and order and ensuring uninterrupted supply of LPG packed cylinders to the consumers.
This was also taken up with Additional Chief Secretary, Home and Political Department requesting to issue necessary instructions to DGP, Assam and all concerned to ensure that picketers are not allowed to carry out blockade of the bottling plants and prevent disruption of distribution of LPG packed cylinders to the consumers.
In the meantime, IOCL authorities informed that they have held meetings both on Tuesday and Wednesday with the office bearers and members of the Association to discuss and settle down the issue thus raised.
