A team of Tangla Police nabbed a five-member gang of petty thieves from Tangla weekly market under Tangla Police Station area in Udalguri district on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Tangla Police in Udalguri district nabbed the five-member gang of thieves from the Tangla Weekly Market.

The five thieves arrested by Tangla Police have been identified as 19-year-old Rajendra Rajbongshi, 19-year-old Ajoy Pujari, 21-year-old Siba Pariga and 28-year-old Ashok Tanti  – all residents of Hatigarh Tea Estate under Harisinga Police Station and 25-year-old Binod Nayak, who is a resident of Teliapara area under Paneri Police Station in Udalguri district.

The gang of thieves was reportedly involved in petty theft incidents in the Tangla Weekly Market.

Based on an FIR lodged by one Mintu Das, the Tangla Police apprehended all the gang members on Friday.

The local people have lauded the police for apprehending the thieves’ gang.

The gang has been booked vide Tangla Police Station Case No 108/18 under 392 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to police sources, allthe gang members have been sent to judicial custody on Saturday.

On March 21 last two sensational daylight burglary cases reported in Udalguri where a duo tricked away a bag containing cash amount of Rs.36,000 from the LIC Satellite Office of Harisinga area in Udaguri. In another case, on the same day, one Chandra Kanta Kumar was robbed by two persons in broad daylight.

Reportedly, the incident took place near Udalguri market when Kumar came out from a bank after drawing his salary amount of Rs 25,000.
