The Barpeta district of Youth Congress took out a mammoth protest rally at Bornagar revenue circle of Sarbhog in Barpeta district of Assam on Tuesday.

The rally was taken out in protest against non-fulfillment of election promises that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had made before the last Assembly elections.

Later the protestors forwarded a memorandum to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through the circle officer demanding early fulfillment of the poll promises made by the BJP led government in the State.

In the three-point agenda memorandum, the Barpeta district unit of the Youth Congress demanded electricity in every household of rural areas, CBI inquiry into the alleged irregular appointment of five relatives of BJP Mangaldai legislator Gurujyoti Das and intervention of the Assam Government into the issue of granting ST status to six indigenous communities of the State.

Tuesday’s protest rally was attended by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee member Rafikul Haque (Rajib), president of Sarbhog unit of Youth Congress Farooq Khan, secretary of Sarbhog unit of Youth Congress Harekrishna Das and president of Barpeta Road Town Block committee Pradip Das.
